Our Beginnings
After spending most of his life in construction, Derick Shackelford aimed to create a home improvement company in Kansas City that distinguished itself by valuing honesty, equality, education, and excellence. These qualities helped him find success while serving overseas in the army as and Infantryman and as Team Leader in a Reconnaissance & Sniper Platoon in the 10th Mountain Division.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree from KU in environmental science and studying sustainable building in Germany, Derick created Shack Built to facilitate a minimally stressful remodeling process and to create excellent, enjoyable spaces for clients and their families.
