Derick Shackelford

“There’s always a better way.”

Derick has been in the construction industry since he entered a construction trades program in high school at 17 years old. After serving 4 years in the Army, he took the time to pursue an education. He worked four years as a project manager, learning under a good friend how to instill quality into every aspect of a project.

Then, he went to school, getting his general education finished at Johnson County Community College before pursuing an environmental science degree at KU. there, he got the opportunity to study in Germany, and broadened his understanding of how construction could work here at home. Once he finished his education, he decided to create Shack Built: a company of contractors in Kansas City that embodied the integrity, quality, and communication that Derick instilled into every aspect of his life.
